DEXA detector and software development stage 1

17 July 2017
Focus area: Carcase primal profitability optimisation
Program stream: Advanced manufacturing
Project number: 2016-1360
This project evaluated the application of multi-energy detectors. A multi-energy x-ray (MEXA) detector, together with a SCOTT x-ray generator and tube were used to provide multiple energy measurements of each pixel.

As part of this project, several scans were performed to assess the technology. It was determined that MEXA can clearly differentiate between fat and lean and can do so with better accuracy and at larger thickness than a DEXA detector.
