AMPC commissioned the CSIRO to perform the 2024 Environmental Performance Review, which records the sustainability performance of the Australian red meat processing industry. The key results include a 16 per cent reduction in water intake since 2010, a 29.5 per cent decrease in energy use, and a 40.4 per cent drop in greenhouse gas emissions intensity.

Increased adoption of bioenergy, solar PV, and wastewater recycling contributed to these gains, though waste to landfill increased due to limited alternative processing options which are an investment area moving forward. These findings benefit the industry by providing benchmarks for site performance, supporting transparency and trust with stakeholders and local communities, and informing future research and environmental management strategies.
