AMPC is pleased to welcome David Carew to our team. David joined AMPC at the end of 2023 as a Senior Co-Innovation Manager, focussing on innovation and adoption strategies to help processors to participate in R&D activities.
Prior to joining AMPC, David was a business development manager for the Casino Food Co-op, and previously worked in Asia for Meat & Livestock Australia.
He says he is excited to work with AMPC and Australian processors.
“I’m inspired by the diversity of the projects, the people on the team and those I’ll work with in the plants. I enjoy seeing the enthusiasm and excitement that develops as capability increases,” he says.
An eye on the future
David sees automation and a focus on personalised nutrition as two big trends to watch over the next decade.
“I see only the torso of the carcass being hung in chillers, with the fore and hind leg hot boned by robots and sent for value-added processing.
“I also think the value of nutraceuticals will increase to the point where processors will consider building pilot plants on site to capture more value and sell into these markets. Personalised nutrition and health devices will drive interest in vitamin and mineral-dense stocks and offal products in the future. Plants with capability in value added and pre-cooked will capitalise on the opportunity.”
The important questions
David is an NRL fan who has loyally stuck by the Wests Tigers despite their consecutive wooden spoon finishes in the last two seasons.
And if you want to share a pizza with him, hold the pineapple.
“It’s a definite no for me, but I respect that it’s in our culture to be innovative with food and as a result Australia has developed a great reputation for our fusion food capability. Australian chefs are highly regarded globally for their curiosity, creativity, and passion for adapting recipes from all over the world using Australian fresh ingredients.”
