Analysis of Regulatory and Related Costs in Red Meat Processing

This project identifies and quantifies the costs that face the red meat processing industry in Australia and compares them with key international competitors the United States, Brazil and Argentina. It also assesses the regulatory components of these costs in each country. Data collected was current as of 2015-16. Using this data and findings, the report identifies general policy directions that may serve the competitive advantage of the Australian industry on the global market. You can download this here.

The complimentary report, Processing Cost Competitiveness, incorporates analysis of data obtained from New Zealand investigations for beef and sheep/lamb processing. A direct comparison between processing costs for both beef and sheep/lamb in Australia and New Zealand is provided along with a summary comparison for beef processing in each of Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Brazil and Argentina.

The final omnibus report can be downloaded in the link below.
