Community Perceptions of the Red Meat Processing Industry

Research into the community perceptions of the red meat processing industry has revealed that knowledge of the industry is low. This is due to a general negative perception of working in the manufacturing sector in addition to working in the red meat processing industry where business is about producing meat products from animals.

Work in the manufacturing sector in general and the red meat processing industry in particular is perceived as being mostly manual labour, male dominated and attracting mainly migrant workers. Almost half of the Australian community believe that the manufacturing sector is in decline with half seeing it as unstable with low pay rates.
